Yahoo! Launches Digital Newsstand

Yahoo! has on 10 February launched a digital newsstand offering personalized content to tablets and other mobile devices.

Called Livestand, the product will initially feature Yahoo!’s digital content library that includes sports, news, finance, Flickr and the Yahoo! Contributor Network. Users can tailor the content they wish to read from this pool.

“Adoption of tablets and mobile phones is exploding, and digital media isn’t keeping up. Consumers can’t find the publications they buy off the newsstand, and publishers and advertisers can’t reach the audiences they want to serve,” Yahoo! vice president and chief product officer Black Irving said in a statement.

Livestand is slated to be available as iPad and Android apps in the first half of this year, followed by mobile phone and browser versions.
